Why is this service better than making my own approach to local businesses?
Growing Ambitions relieves you of the coldcalling task – here you have access to volunteers who already understand what’s involved, and will have thought through the implications. They need no persuading! Often calling on friends and contacts to fulfil the role does not bring the commitment you had hoped for. Back

Why is it necessary to charge a £20 fee for each Speaker?
The fee covers administration costs of the site, and contributes to the extensive PR and advertising campaigns. If you are in the state sector, why not contact your 14-19 Collaborative or Consortium regarding funding? Back

How do I know that my young people will receive a 'quality' talk?
We give Speakers clear guidance on the topics their talk should cover as well as tips on how to make it an informative pleasurable experience for all. We also encourage them to bring along visual aids if relevant, and brochures, freebies etc. where they can. Back

Is there a limit to the number of Speakers that I can book in ayear?
No. You can book as many as you please. Back

We are a University, may we also use the service?
Yes, you may. Back

What does the service cost?
There is an annual £100 Registration fee which covers 12 calendar months from the day the fee is paid. We are offering a free first 12 months Registration currently. Site users are sent an email reminder prior to renewal date. There is a £20 fee per Speaker booking. If you are a secondary school or FE college in the state sector, contact your 14-19 Collaborative or Consortium. They may be willing to fund your use of the service. If you wish to pay by invoice, (for Speaker fees) select that option in the Shopping Cart when paying for Speaker bookings. On requesting invoice payment you will be able to book speakers straight away. Back

Can I pay by credit card?
Yes, you can . Back

Will we get a bill from the Speaker for travel expenses?
No. The Speaker or their employer agree to cover these costs. Back

If we are unhappy with the talk we received, can we obtain a refund?
No. We have a policy of not refunding Speaker Booking Fees. In the event of dissatisfaction, we request that Growing Ambitions™ be notified. The fee is then donated to Charity. The ethos of this service is to attract individuals who love their jobs, are enthusiastic speakers, and are keen to help young people. Should a talk be poor, however, we would appreciate feedback on your experience via the Contact Us page on this website. We will then take the matter up with the Speaker concerned. Back

Does the Speaker know that a teacher will be present during the talk?
Yes. This is in their Terms & Conditions. Of course, to fulfil your obligations, you should not leave a Speaker alone with the young people at any time. Back

What if we only have a few students interested in a specific career?
Speakers are aware that 'group' size could be anything from one individual upwards. Back

What if we need a few Speakers for a Careers Fair or Evening?
Simply book the Speakers you want, to all come on that same occasion. Back

What should I expect in a Careers talk?
It will cover everything from how the Speaker became interested in the career, through to qualifications, career path and remuneration. Back

After a Careers Talk has been given, are we free to build a relationship with a Speaker’s organisation, if we wish? Is guidance available?
Yes, you can, if they are willing, too. And yes, visit the Resources page for a download with things to consider. Back

Why are forgotten passwords reset and not resent?
Your password is encrypted so only you know what it is. This is a safer system. Back

Are Speakers CRB police-checked?
Prior to July 2010
No, currently our Speakers are not required to be CRB checked, although they are invited to indicate if they are, or not.  If you wish to carry out a CRB check on a Speaker, remember to book your Speaker(s) at least 5 weeks ahead to allow time for the Checks(s) to be done. We do not reimburse costs for any checking undertaken.
After July 2010
After July 2010 the rules will be changing. Whilst it will not be compulsory, all our volunteers will be encouraged to register with the ISA www.isa-gov.org.uk . ISA registration will be evident in Speakers' descriptions. You will be unable to repeat book any non-ISA registered Speaker within any one-month period.

Why is this service better than making my own approach to local businesses?
Often you will find that the Human Resources function within a Speaker’s organisation is an enthusiastic supporter of Growing Ambitions and that their support of the initiative forms part of their staff development and/or Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.
